What do we want? BRAINS! When do we want it? BRAINS!


The 3rd annual Melbourne Zombie Shuffle was held today, and what a fantastic day it was! Big shout-outs to the lovely Ms Clem (pictured to my left, above, and also below) who got the whole rotting ball rolling, and whose company made for a great day out in the company of an undead horde that was at least 500 strong.


We came; we saw; we shambled, drooled, moaned, lurched and generally had a ball. Next year we'll be back, bigger and more cadaverous than ever!

I'm sad I missed it again - I went to the shuffle in 2006, and had an amazing amount of fun! I saw the MSN video, by the way - someone linked to it in a livejournal community - and recognised your voice before I realised it was you under the makeup! You look great:)

I am too slack to do it, next year, next year, and was heading down the coast, but my favourite was seeing zombies riding there in their bikes and cars. So out of context.

We had a zombie walk in Helsinki too a while ago. I just realized it existed and was thrilled about it. I could've participated without make-up after staying up with the baby every night for eight months in a row... There are pros and cons in being single. ;-)

Did you see any of the Sea Arrrgh protestors on the day down near Flinders St? I heard there was some kind of interaction between the pirates and the zombies.

The streets of old Fitzroy

I've lived in Fitzroy for 14 years, and long before I moved here spent some formative moment in its pubs and terrace houses. I have an unpublished novel that set's in Fitzroy in the 1940s (originally it was set in the 1950s but I've realised it was the wrong period). I love this suburb, even as it changes before my eyes, which is why I love articles and photographs and stories of its past.   From the Herald-Sun , here's a series of images of the old inner city slums that once characterised much of Fitzroy. And from The Age just yesterday, here's an article about a photographer who was documenting the vanishing post-war Fitzroy culture in 1973-74.  Happy reading.
